MCNP INTEGRATION

MCNP Version 6.0 (MCNP6) supports an embedded unstructured mesh hybrid geometry feature. This feature allows MCNP to directly import, and track particles on, a tetrahedral mesh exported by Attila, enabling a direct path from CAD -> Attila -> MCNP. Attila Version 8.0 fully supports this feature, along with GUI support for most other components of an MCNP input deck. Additionally, Attila can automatically generate an optimized weight windows mesh for direct use with MCNP/MCNPX, eliminating the need for time-consuming manual variance reduction.

Collectively, the MCNP integration features in Attila Version 8.0 enable users to rapidly set-up and verify complex calculations through two independent first-principle solution methods. Duplication of effort is minimized, enabling faster design simulations and easier verification.

Below is an illustration of the calculation set-up process for MCNP, where most steps are common to both MCNP and Attila.

arbitrary geometry create in CAD

Arbitrary geometry created in CAD, not limited to combinatorial shapes.

CAD model imported into Attila GUI

CAD model imported into the Attila GUI, and computational mesh created.
This mesh can be directly used by both Attila and MCNP6.

material compositions created in Attila GUI

Material compositions created in the Attila GUI, usable by both Attila and MCNP.

material to cell assignments in Attila GUI

Material-to-cell assignments specified in the GUI, usable by both Attila and MCNP.

MCNP calculation controls window

MCNP calculation controls and weight windows specified in the Attila GUI. Through the adjoint mode, Attila can directly compute optimized weight windows for MCNP, eliminating the need for time-consuming manual variance reduction.

MCNP export the MCNP6 geometry file

The Pack for MCNP option in Attila will automatically export the MCNP6 geometry file and input deck. To see an example MCNP6 input deck generated by Attila, (click here)
